Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic procedure that produces detailed images of specific areas of the body. The procedure is extremely safe and exposes the patient to no radiation. The images are produced using a large magnet, radio waves and an advanced computer system. A patient’s physician may order an MRI examination to evaluate the brain, breast, spine, muscles, joints and tendons as well as major organs and blood vessels.

This short-bore magnet is approximately half the length of a traditional MRI scanner and offers much of the comfort of an open MRI without compromising image quality.

Our open magnet offers an acceptable alternative for patients who are severely claustrophobic or of large frame or build. With its open, non-constricting space, it allows patients to have a procedure that would otherwise be impossible to undertake or endure. Some MRI exams require a contrast agent to highlight certain parts of your body. If contrast is required for your exam, it will be given by intravenous injection. There are usually no side effects from the contrast agent used in MRI.
